Fluid Intake-Hamrick
Several aging changes contribute to our need for more water: lower ability to concentrate the urine causes us to lose more fluids, and a shift of blood to our lower extremities when we get up in the morning makes less blood available for brain perfusion. We also feel less thirsty as we age and trying to avoid bladder leakage, makes dehydration a great risk.
Drinking more fluids early in the day is critical and can prevent many problems. During the talk I address how normal aging changes contribute to dehydration, how to remember to drink more, and why drinking more decreases trips to the bathroom.
