Falls in Older Adults

Falls and fear of falling are common as we get older because it often leads to institutionalization, loss of independence and death. Several aging changes contribute to the risk of falling such as slowed reaction time, worsening vision, decreased muscle strength, dehydration and medications.

I discuss what we can due to prevent falls: adequate fluid intake, what medications to avoid, what exercises to do and what assistance is available to remain independent longer.
